Unfortunately we stopped the struggle "Baku United" easily passed the preliminary group stage of the UEFA Cup. Another target was a successful performance mainly in the group stage. This time the opponents were more serious: Champion of the Czech Republic "Chrudim", the first in Slovenia "Litiya" and the last winner of Cyprus futsal league "Omonia" Nicosia. All the meetings were held in Nicosia. In the first match, our futsal players met with Czech champion. The match was expected to be intense. The assumptions came up. The winner is not defined in the match of mutual attacks, 3-3. In the 2nd round, "Baku United" was expected to have a match with the host team. This match was difficult for our futsal players. But at the end, the English champions managed to win with a minimum score, 1-0. After this result, our team gained a good opportunity to rise to the next stage. The 3rd match would have solved everything. Unfortunately, although trying their best, our futsal players could not avoid the defeat, 2-3. After these results, "Chrudin" that completed the group in the first step with 7 points and "Litiya" with 6 points gained an access to the elite round. And "Baku United" having 4 points stopped its struggle and was the 3rd in the group.
Taking into account that this was our first struggle in the European clubs, we may consider our performance satisfactory. Now all European clubs recognize "Baku United" as a serious opponent. We hope that our team will be entitled to compete as the champion of England in the UEFA Cup and may reach at least the "Quarter Final".
